*Surfaces, gasping for air* Oh, hi, how are you? I’ve been spending the last roughly a week on a dive back into the audio books for Stormlight Archive by Brandon Sanderson because the last book in the first half of the arc released last week and it’s big enough I like to refresh my memory before each new book. (Also I enjoy the books and get sucked in easily.)
They are also very captivating so I’ve been ignoring other things to an extent to read/listen. I have been enjoying audio books lately because they leave my hands free to pursue other things like dishes, folding laundry, pretending to pay attention to “Mario Chess-t” with my youngest, etcetera, but on my first read of a book I really enjoy or am anticipating, I like to hold it in my hands. So I expect there’ll be about a day this week when I do nothing but sit on my bed excitedly paging through it. Honestly I read faster than audiobooks go so I don’t expect it’ll take me long to finish.
However, this does mean I’ve not been pursuing a lot of writing this week. I can write while I listen to music but I can’t split my brain for word-processing. And things I write after this week might be slightly tainted by Sanderson script. (Tainted isn’t the word I want here; flavored? Flavored is probably closer.) For similar reasons that I mentioned in the style post- immersing yourself in a certain style of art is going to change the flavor (yep, that’s the metaphor I wanted) of what you then output. But since my current project is pretty far removed from Sanderson content and I’m not final-drafting it, I’ll probably be fine.
Well, I’m gonna get back to listening. Shallan is facing down the Midnight Mother and I’m excited. 😀
