Only 3 more poems. Hope I make them worth it.
Notes: interesting poetry forms I don’t think I’m doing this month- Sestina; a six-verse six-line-per-verse style where the last words of each line remain the last words of each line in subsequent verses, just shuffled according to a specific pattern. Too much planning for what I’m doing here. Also Blackout poetry; the style where you take an existing bit of words and remove some words to create something new. I toyed with doing something with nutrition labels or one of my old works but ultimately decided that also takes too much planning.
Instead I’m going to do Occasional poetry today. This doesn’t mean it happens once in a while, but that it happens for a specific occasion. Like swearing someone in to office or a birthday or a funeral or a holiday. So I’m going to do a holiday. Remember when I world-built a holiday called Tralfest? Let’s see what sort of poem I can make from that.
Paean to the Lady of Trelya
O Lady of Tralfest,
O Lady of the Pigs!
We celebrate your coming now
To bring the feast and this we vow,
That through the days of feast and fast
We share with friends all our repast.
O Lady of the Purple Vine,
O Lady bringing Fish!
We’ve spent our days in meditation,
Bless with plenty our great nation!
Let us through the plenty share,
Let us in the lean times care!
O Lady riding Chariot,
O Lady leading Throngs,
Lead us as the fish from ocean,
Give us strength and fond devotion,
Help us in our saddened state,
And join us when we celebrate!
I guess Tralfest has taken a little more religious connotation and some fasting prior. Cool cool. Fun building it out a little more.
