Favorite Colors
My children are very concerned with
Favorite colors.
It comes of having a dad so into blue, I suppose.
Pink for the eldest, because she got there first.
Red for the second, which fits her big feelings.
(But her second favorite is pink.)
Yellow for the third, who likes going by Sunshine.
(But her second favorite is red. Her third is pink.)
The third of our girls wanted to make sure
That everyone had a color.
Blue for Daddy was clear,
And she learned Grandma likes purple.
Orange for her Uncle who lives nearby.
But Mom, what’s your favorite color?
I told them I like lots of colors, but that was
Unacceptable.
I’ve been assigned to like green.
If I had to choose, right now, and could only choose one,
Green’s good enough but a nice teal might do better.
But who can deny the beauty of
Vibrant orange and ruddy clouds at sunset?
The deep rich brown of melted chocolate.
The shadow and light on the fur of a black cat.
The sea-glass shades of aquamarine through the sea-foam on a wave.
A red rose speckled with dew
Or a yellow or a purple.
The inky blue of a night sky speckled with glowing white stars.
A field of glistening unbroken white snow.
Deep rich folds of burgundy in a velvet dress.
The color of your lover’s hands
Or their eyes
Or your child’s arms.
Gray has a soft beauty,
Red shares intensity,
Green for life and brilliance,
Blue for the calm of the sea and the sky.
Deep shades, shades mixed with gray for a stormy effect,
Pale pastels and bright bolds,
There are so many colors and
In the right space
I love them all.
