Lest you think I slacked off on writing a poem on Saturday with the internet down, I’ll have you know I came up with a very funny limerick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I didn’t write it down so you’ll have to take this one instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dear acorn, fear not the squir-rell
Nor oyster, the otter as well.
They’re not trying to taunt,
Truly all that they want
Is to help you get out of your shell!

I got that from looking at the Inktober prompts; day 6 didn’t feel conducive to a fun little poem so I went to day 7’s Starfish then there to octopus and eventually all I kept from that idea was the last line. But I’m thinking some associative free-verse might do for Pierce from day 6 and since they’re both here and this is my thing and not official I don’t care which one counts as the 6th or the 7th. (Don’t worry ’bout me, guys, I’m trying to evoke a feeling here yes but it’s not one I’m currently feeling.) (i.e. I know my mom is one of my 3 regulars; don’t freak out. \ud83d\ude09 )<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Incoming tonal whiplash, enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On black velvet is stitched a heart
Each valve glowing, each vein pulsing
Stitched with care and pain.
Prick my fingers, stab my cloth
For the knife that sunders
Silver glinting
Vines come twisting
Thorns to rip the tender wound.
What did it do,
This heart so young,
To merit such response?
What errant thought
What flippant choice,
When did this target enter your sights?
I’m not a thrush, to beat the bush,
And watch me fly with arrow nocked.
I’m not a doe in forest deep,
Too unaware of approaching feet,
Yet here I lie, my heart still rent
Bleeding, gushing, streaming tears.
You left me there
Alone
Wounded
